Shannon Curtis writes and performs art pop music; Jamie Hill produces and creates music with all sorts of bands and artists. They’re both writers and authors and speakers… oh, and also, they’re married!
For the last decade-plus, Shannon and Jamie have been building on their shared delusion that a married pair of working artists can make a successful life together – far outside of any industry mainstream. Their journey on this unpaved path has led them to the heart of the community-centered work they do and has given definition to the life they aim to live: one in which they share themselves honestly, make authentic connections with others, and create opportunities for people to make deeper connections with themselves and with each other.
The pair set out every summer to deliver Shannon’s songs to audiences across the continent, wrapped up in intimate house concert experiences. They’re currently preparing for their 9th annual house concert tour, which will take them to about 75 backyards and living rooms all over North America. Each show is a community-driven effort, hosted by someone who supports the music Shannon and Jamie make, performed for the host’s local community of friends and neighbors.
In 2019, Shannon and Jamie launched a weekly podcast and online community, called Misfit Stars (misfitstars.com). Instead of focusing on house concerts or music more generally, this podcast gives them a weekly opportunity to have an hour-long conversation with one another about what’s on their minds that week, from a deeply humanist point of view.
Shannon and Jamie are passionate about teaching what they know to other artists so that those artists can develop and grow independently their own career-sustaining communities of supporters. To this end, they have self-published a best-selling how-to book entitled: No Booker, No Bouncer, No Bartender: How I made $25K on a 2-Month House Concert Tour (And How You Can Too). They speak at conferences, and they do continuous ongoing mentorship of a small army of DIY artists worldwide.
