Angela Alioto is a legal and political lioness. Inspired by her family’s political legacy, she continues her work on behalf of San Francisco and California citizens. In her multiple roles—including and long after serving on San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors, as a California Super Delegate, and as an attorney—she has faced off against big tobacco to enact strict no-smoking guidelines, has focused on protecting neighborhood healthcare, created a comprehensive plan to reduce homelessness, and advocated for AIDS education. She’s cosponsored plans to assist minority businesses and to protect our environment. Concerned with justice, poverty, health, and the environment, this daughter of former San Francisco Mayor Joe Alioto has created her own name in the political and activist worlds. Her memoir, Straight to the Heart, covers her eight years in San Francisco politics and is appropriately based on Dante’s Inferno.
